A Life in Service
Born in Model Town to a freedom fighter's family, Mira Aggarwal grew from a student leader at Delhi University into one of the capital's most trusted public figures. A lawyer by training and a social worker by conviction, she has spent every chapter of her career, as councillor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor, opening doors for women, children and working Delhiites.

As Chairman of the MCD Education Committee she gave primary-school children tables and chairs for the first time, introduced English as a subject and modernised classrooms. Government schools came on par with private ones, a change that has touched the lives of lakhs of students.
Founder-force behind the Women and Children Welfare Society, a practising advocate who provides free legal counselling to women seeking justice, and associated with numerous NGOs working for the upliftment of women. As Mayor she completed Delhi's first Mahila Haat, a dedicated market for women artisans.
Initiated Delhi's multi-level underground parking during her term as Deputy Mayor, and championed better civic amenities across the capital.
Formulated the hand-rickshaw puller policy as Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee, bringing recognition and relief to some of Delhi's hardest-working citizens.
The Journey
1977
Already grounded in the Rashtriya Sewika Samiti since childhood, she joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at just sixteen. It was the beginning of a public life that continues to this day.
1997
In her first term as councillor she became Deputy Chairperson of the MCD Standing Committee, where she formulated the hand-rickshaw puller policy.
1998
Elevated to Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the first woman ever to hold the post. She led the formation of the Women and Children Welfare Society and initiated Delhi's multi-level underground parking.
2010–12
Framed policies to improve the efficiency and accountability of MCD employees.
