Meera Aggarwal is Mayor No. 1 after uncontested election

London's Daily Mail carried the Mail Today report to an international audience under the headline "Mayor No. 1", Delhi's giant Municipal Corporation had been split into three, and Mira Aggarwal of the BJP was the first Mayor any of the new corporations had elected, chosen unopposed by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on 30 April 2012.

The report set out the moment for readers abroad: a three-time councillor and law graduate from the Sawan Park ward, sworn in at the Civic Centre alongside Deputy Mayor Azad Singh, with the East and South corporations due to elect their own mayors on the following Tuesday and Wednesday. The first Standing Committee, four BJP members and two from the Congress, was elected the same day.
