Meera Aggarwal elected Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation

Three-time councillor Mira Aggarwal, it reported, had been elected unopposed as Mayor of the newly created North Delhi Municipal Corporation, with her party colleague Azad Singh, the councillor from Mundka, becoming Deputy Mayor at the same Civic Centre sitting.

The wire set down the essentials for the record: fifty years old, a law graduate, elected from the Sawan Park ward in the municipal elections of 15 April, and unopposed because the Congress chose not to field a candidate against her.

It also recorded the corporation's first Standing Committee, elected the same day: Yogender Chandolia (Dev Nagar), V. P. Pandey (Rohini North), Surinder Kaur (Karampura) and Hoor Banu (Qasabpura) of the BJP, with Mukesh Goel (Dheerpur) and Prithvi Singh Rathore (Peeragarhi) of the Congress, and looked ahead to the East Delhi corporation's election the next day.
